Physical Education

In January 2003, the NC State Board of Education passed the "Healthy Active Children Policy" regarding physical education in NC schools. The policy has 5 key components:

1) Creating a Local School Health Advisory Council

2) Recommendations for the amount of physical education and physical activity needed in schools.

3) Recommendations regarding recess policies

4) Development of a Coordinated School Health Program that includes 8 key components: safe environments; physical education; health education; staff wellness; health services; mental and social health; nutrition services; and parental/family involvement.

5) A timeline requiring that the new policy be fully implemented by the 2006-2007 school year.
